This is my soft slab cup project. To make this, I used cone 5 clay. A new skill I learned was how to use the tools at my disposal to smooth and add texture to my cup. It is pink and black and features swirl designs! Now, I will keep my cup (and drink out of it) so that I can remember this class!

This is a box I dedicated to my experiences with the Mount Si High School gymnastics team during my freshman year. Although this season is not yet over, I figured what better way to commemorate my time. On the two sides that are not shown in the picture, I engraved "MSHS Gymnastics '13-'14" with a paw print. On the second side, I put a set of uneven bars, one of my personal favorite events. On the two sides that are shown in the picture, I have featured the vault and balence beam. After this box was run through the kiln for the first time, I glazed it. I glazed it using black, forest green, tomato red, and brown. This is how I made my gymnastics box. This is my pinch project. I made a snowman box, which also happens to be completely hollow on the inside. I did this so that it would have no chance of blowing up in the kiln. Then, once it came out as a bisque piece I glazed it. I used white, pink, tomato red, and yellow glaze. These came together to create the colors of my snowman. This snowman is, in my opinion, one of my best works, and it is by far my favorite. These are my iPad drawings. My first drawing, the apple, was my first attempt at using the sketchbook app. I started with a yellow layer, and slowly applied the green on top. Lastly, I added a shadow to shoe the direction of light. Next, I drew a face. This drawing was not as good, but I like it either way. For this drawing, I started with a black background, so that the colors would really pop. From there, I slowly added layers of color for skin and many other features. My last drawing it a spooky tree drawing. I used a lot of layers and several different shades of blue. To add dimension I used a light shade of blue for the trees that are farther back, and increased the value of the trees as they came closer forward. I really like my scary tree drawing because I feel like it is a pretty accurate representation of how far my artistic abilities have come just this semester. This is my hard slab project. So far, I have stuck all of the pieces together (using a 45 degree angle, then using the slip and score method). My plans of this box, it to have the letters "MSHS" coming out on one side, and gently engrave gymnastics 2013-14 along the bottom/underneath the "MSHS". Although, I do not know if I will put this, it depends on how much room I have on the box. On the other sides, I will place/draw the bars, beam, and vault apparatuses. I will be tweaking this plan as I go though, because I am not sure the scale I will have to put this all on.
These are my bisque pieces. My cup is good, and made it through very nicely, but my snowman did not. Unfortunately, I am a little confused as to why it didn't survive, because I left several holes in the snowman. Although, I am going to re-make it and try again.
1/24/2014- An update- I successfully recreated my snowman, and fired it. It survived, although due to the lack of time remaining in the semester, I did not have the time to post a new bisque picture. I also now understand why the first one did not survive. I am very excited to see my new snowman come out of the kiln as this semester comes to an end in 2 days. This is my color painting portrait, that I made of my sister. I used paints and paper to make it. A new skill I used was using a dry brush to make a hair-like texture. Art elements that I used were: *re-sketching my drawing, so I could paint it *softly defining features *create a unified image *indicate 3 dimensions and *define brush strokes to make clear textures. Rubric: *Re-sketching my drawing so I could paint it-5 *softly defining features-5 *create a unified image-5 *indicate 3 dimensions-4 *define brush strokes to make clear textures-5 This is the sketch of my sisters portrait. It is made just with a HB drawing pencil, on some paper. A new skill that I applied is how to use lighting to my advantage. The art elements that were used while I was making this include:
*using proportion and value to make a 3-D face *emphasis on certain part of the face *using space/form to my advantage *using different lines/edges *texture *and lastly, proportion and scale. The overall mood of my portrait is joy because her eyes and her smile capture her joyful attitude towards life. |
