Here is a little bit of my Romeo and Juliet essay, which has been my favorite essay yet this year. If you would like to read it all, click the link HERE.The actions one commits transforms their character. These actions will also shape the lives of those they interact with. Similarly, Romeo’s impulsive actions impact the events in Shakespeare’s classic love story, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. From free will to fate, Romeo’s decisions affect not only him, but his supporting characters as well.
Mercutio is one of the people most affected by Romeo’s actions. When Romeo becomes depressed because his beloved Rosaline will not sleep with him, Mercutio swoops in to help Romeo out of his lust inspired stupor (Zeffirelli). Romeo consciously decides to fall into a depressed state of mind, and as a feeble attempt to help him, Mercutio peer pressures Romeo into crashing the Capulet’s costume party.
